Arsenal Appoint Andrea Berta as New Sporting Director
Arsenal have appointed experienced Italian administrator Andrea Berta as their new sporting director, the Premier League club confirmed on Sunday, March 30th. Berta joins Arsenal after a highly successful 12-year tenure at Atletico Madrid, replacing Brazilian Edu, who resigned from the position last year.
“I am thrilled to be joining Arsenal in what is a hugely exciting period for the club,” Berta said in a statement released by Arsenal. “I have watched with great interest the way Arsenal have evolved in recent years and I have admired the hard work that has gone in to re-establishing the club as a major force in European football with a passionate following around the world.”
During his time at Atletico Madrid, initially as technical director before becoming sporting director, Berta played a pivotal role in building squads that achieved significant success. This included winning two La Liga titles (in 2013-14, ending an 18-year wait, and again in 2020-21), reaching two Champions League finals, and securing the Europa League title in 2018.
Berta’s appointment is seen as a key move for Arsenal as they look to continue their resurgence and compete for major honours both domestically and in Europe.
