Chelsea Agree £55m Deal with Dortmund for Winger Gittens
Chelsea have agreed to a £55 million deal with Borussia Dortmund for winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, with the player now set to undergo a medical at the Premier League club.
The 20-year-old English talent had reportedly agreed to personal terms on a seven-year contract with Chelsea earlier this month. The agreement comes after Dortmund rejected a previous £42 million offer from the London club on June 10, with the Bundesliga side initially holding out for a fee closer to £60 million.
Bynoe-Gittens was identified as Chelsea’s primary target to bolster their attacking options, particularly following the return of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United after his loan spell. The club’s forward line is also currently without Mykhailo Mudryk, who remains provisionally suspended after being charged by the Football Association for an anti-doping rule violation.
Should the deal be completed, Bynoe-Gittens would become Chelsea’s fourth major signing of the summer transfer window. He would join striker Liam Delap, midfielder Dario Essugo, and defender Mamadou Sarr as new arrivals at Stamford Bridge. Brazilian prodigy Estevão Willian is also set to join the club following his participation in the FIFA Club World Cup with Palmeiras.
Due to his appearances for Borussia Dortmund earlier in the tournament, Bynoe-Gittens would be ineligible to play for Chelsea in the ongoing Club World Cup.
Chelsea’s summer recruitment is reportedly set to continue, with the club said to be targeting a versatile forward. Brighton’s João Pedro is among the names linked, alongside Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitiké and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus.
