Former Uruguayan national team captain Diego Forlán announced his final retirement from professional football on Tuesday.

“I have decided to stop playing football professionally,” Foran told the local Teledoce channel.

The Uruguayan star played for the last time at Kitchee Sports in Hong Kong.

He played in Independiente de Argentina, Manchester United, Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid in Spain, with whom he was twice Pichichi (top scorer) in La Liga, Inter Milan, Porto Alegre International and the Uruguayan Peñarol, the club of which he is a real fan.

He is regarded as one of the greatest Uruguayan players of all time. At club level, Forlán is a two-time winner of both the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe. With Uruguay, he had huge individual success at the 2010 World Cup receiving the Golden Ball, the joint Top Scorer award, the Goal of the Tournament award and being named in the Dream Team.
