FIFA to Launch New Women’s Champions Cup in 2026
FIFA has announced the creation of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, a new annual global club competition slated to begin in 2026. The tournament will feature the six winners of the continental confederation club competitions, providing a platform for a global club champion to be crowned in years when the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup is not held.
Tournament Format:
The competition will utilize a multi-stage format:
- Preliminary Rounds:
- Round 1: The AFC champion will host the OFC champion.
- Round 2: The winner of Round 1 will play away against the CAF champion.
- Semi-finals:
- The winner of Round 2 will face the UEFA champion.
- The CONCACAF champion will play the CONMEBOL champion.
- Final Four: The tournament culminates in a “Final Four” phase, consisting of semi-finals, a third-place play-off, and the final.
Confirmed Dates (First Three Editions):
The “Final four” stage will be held:
- 2026: January 28 – February 1
- 2027: January 27 – January 31
- 2029: January 24 – January 28
