Europa League: Ajax Suffer Home Defeat Against Eintracht Frankfurt
Ajax ‘s Europa League campaign took a hit as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Despite taking an early lead, the Dutch side could not hold off the Bundesliga outfit.
Ajax started strongly, with Brian Brobbey hitting the post within two minutes before heading in the opener in the 10th minute. However, their momentum was disrupted when goalkeeper Remko Pasveer suffered an injury, forcing third-choice Jay Gorter into action.
Frankfurt found the equalizer through Hugo Larsson, whose deflected shot left Gorter helpless. Brobbey continued to trouble the German defense but was substituted after an hour, unable to restore Ajax’s lead.
The visitors then capitalized on their dominance, with Ellyes Skhiri finishing off a fine team move to put Frankfurt ahead. Ajax protested a potential foul on Youri Baas in the buildup, but the referee dismissed their appeals.
