Pep Guardiola marked his 500 th game in charge of Manchester City with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland secured just a second win in 10 Premier League games for the struggling champions.

Despite the win, City remain outside the top four, sitting fifth and 14 points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who demolished West Ham 5-0. Guardiola, facing the worst run of his managerial career, has vowed to fight on, but his side were far from convincing against a Leicester team also in a slump.

The Foxes, who have now lost four consecutive matches, posed a threat to City’s fragile defense, with Jamie Vardy going close twice and Facundo Buonanotte hitting the post. However, City’s attacking quality ultimately proved decisive.

Savinho opened the scoring in the 21st minute with his first goal for the club, firing home from close range after Jakub Stolarczyk parried Phil Foden’s shot. Leicester continued to push for an equalizer, but Manuel Akanji denied James Justin with a crucial clearance and Vardy fired over from close range.

Haaland then sealed the victory with 16 minutes remaining, heading in Savinho’s cross to secure all three points for City. The win provides a much-needed boost for Guardiola’s side, but they still have a long way to go to regain their dominant form of previous seasons. At last, it marked guardiola’s  500 th game in charge of Manchester City.

For Leicester, the defeat deepens their woes and leaves them in the relegation zone. The Foxes have struggled since Steve Cooper’s departure in November and face a battle to avoid the drop.
