Premier League Deadline Day Transfers: 7 Deals That Could Still Happen

The 2026 summer transfer window has reached its final hours, but several Premier League clubs still have major decisions to make before the deadline.

With the window closing at 23:00 BST on Tuesday, the final day could yet produce some significant moves. Arsenal are still working on a potential deal for Julian Alvarez, while Manchester City have opened talks with Chelsea over Enzo Fernandez.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are preparing for the possibility of losing Fernandez, Manchester United could still make changes to their squad and Tottenham have had to rethink their plans after Manchester City moved ahead of them for Iliman Ndiaye.

Not every rumoured transfer is still realistic, though.

Liverpool’s proposed sale of Cody Gakpo to Manchester City has stalled, while Crystal Palace have reportedly decided against selling Ismaila Sarr.

With that in mind, here are seven Premier League deadline day transfers that could still happen, and what needs to fall into place for each one.

1. Julian Alvarez to Arsenal

This remains the most intriguing potential Premier League deadline day transfer.

Arsenal have maintained their interest in Julian Alvarez as the Argentina international’s relationship with Atletico Madrid has become increasingly complicated.

Atletico have made their position clear: they will not negotiate with Barcelona over Alvarez, despite the player’s reported preference for a move to Camp Nou.

Arsenal, however, represent a different proposition.

The Gunners are understood to be a club Atletico are willing to negotiate with, while Arsenal have continued working behind the scenes to make the transfer possible.

The biggest obstacle is not necessarily the fee. It is Alvarez himself.

The 26-year-old has been reluctant to abandon his hopes of joining Barcelona, although reports on deadline day indicate that he is open to considering Arsenal.

That leaves the deal in an unusual position: Atletico are prepared to sell to Arsenal, Arsenal want the player, but Alvarez still has to decide whether London is the right destination.

If he gives the green light, the negotiations could move quickly.

What needs to happen: Alvarez must commit to Arsenal and Atletico must agree the final financial structure.

2. Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City

This could be the biggest Premier League transfer of deadline day if Manchester City can reach an agreement with Chelsea.

City have opened discussions over Enzo Fernandez, with the Argentina midfielder emerging as a major target after City’s midfield underwent significant changes during the summer.

Fernandez’s situation is particularly interesting because of his relationship with City boss Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with him at Chelsea.

The potential fee would also be enormous.

Chelsea are understood to value Fernandez at a figure that could make the transfer one of the most expensive in Premier League history. Reports have suggested that the London club could demand as much as £140m.

But Chelsea cannot simply sell Fernandez and move on.

The Blues would need to replace one of their most important midfielders, with Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Roma’s Manu Kone among the names being considered.

That creates a classic deadline-day domino.

Fernandez to City → Chelsea need a midfielder → another transfer has to happen.

And with only hours remaining, that makes this one of the deals worth watching most closely.

3. Lamine Camara to Chelsea

If Fernandez leaves for Manchester City, Chelsea’s attention could immediately turn to his replacement.

Lamine Camara has emerged as one of the options being considered by the Blues.

The Monaco midfielder fits the profile Chelsea have repeatedly targeted in recent windows: young, athletic and capable of operating in a high-intensity midfield.

But this is not necessarily a straightforward deal.

Chelsea would need to move quickly, while Monaco would have little reason to make negotiations easy with the deadline approaching.

That makes Camara one of the more interesting possible last-minute Premier League transfers of 2026, particularly if the Fernandez situation accelerates.

4. Manu Kone to Chelsea

Manu Kone is another potential solution to Chelsea’s midfield problem.

The Roma midfielder has been linked with the Blues as they prepare for the possibility of Fernandez leaving.

Unlike a standalone transfer, however, Kone’s situation is heavily dependent on what happens with the Argentina international.

Chelsea therefore have two connected questions to answer:

Do they sell Fernandez? And, if they do, who replaces him?

Kone could become a serious deadline-day target if the first question is answered positively.

This is why Chelsea could potentially have one of the busiest final days of the transfer window even after already conducting extensive business this summer.

5. Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City

This deal has already moved much further than some of the other transfers on this list.

Manchester City switched their attention to Iliman Ndiaye after their pursuit of Cody Gakpo stalled, and they reached an agreement with Everton for the Senegal international.

The proposed deal is worth around £60m plus £5m in add-ons, according to reports, with Ndiaye scheduled for a medical.

That move has also had consequences elsewhere.

Tottenham had been pursuing Ndiaye and had discussed a deal involving Richarlison, but City’s intervention forced Spurs to rethink their plans.

It is a perfect example of how one deadline-day move can trigger another.

City get Ndiaye → Tottenham lose their target → Spurs need an alternative.

6. Mykhailo Mudryk to Tottenham

Tottenham have already had to change direction after losing the race for Ndiaye.

Their attention has subsequently turned towards Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

A loan move is being discussed, with Mudryk reunited with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who previously worked with the Ukrainian at Shakhtar Donetsk.

For Chelsea, the move would provide an opportunity to get Mudryk off the wage bill and give the winger a chance to rebuild his career elsewhere.

For Tottenham, it would represent a relatively low-risk way of adding another attacking option.

And unlike some of the bigger transfers still being negotiated, this is the sort of deal that can potentially be completed quickly if both clubs agree the final terms.

7. Joshua Zirkzee could still leave Manchester United

Manchester United’s deadline day could be quieter than some of their Premier League rivals, but Joshua Zirkzee remains a player to watch.

The Netherlands international has attracted interest from Serie A, with Juventus among the clubs monitoring his situation.

A move would depend on other transfers falling into place, but United would reportedly prefer a permanent departure or at least a loan arrangement containing a firm obligation to buy.

That makes Zirkzee one of the more complicated deals on deadline day.

United are unlikely to sanction an exit simply for the sake of reducing their squad. They would need to believe the structure works for them financially and sporting-wise.

Which Premier League deadline day transfers are most likely?

Not every headline-grabbing rumour will become a completed transfer.

The Gakpo-to-Manchester City move, for example, has already suffered a major setback after Liverpool rejected City’s proposal, while Palace have maintained that Sarr will stay.

That leaves a smaller group of deals that deserve the most attention.

The Alvarez and Fernandez situations are the ones with the greatest potential to reshape the Premier League before the window closes.

But deadline day is rarely about one transfer in isolation.

A player leaving one club can create an opening somewhere else, which can then trigger another move — and with the clock ticking towards 23:00 BST, clubs have very little time left to complete the chain.

The 2026 summer transfer window is almost closed. The biggest deals, however, may still be waiting for the final hours.
