Erling Haaland has scored against every team he has faced in the Premier League, finding the net against Sunderland in Manchester City’s 5-3 win at the Etihad Stadium. The Norwegian’s 81st-minute strike, initially ruled offside before VAR overturned the decision, converted a Joลกko Gvardiol cross at the far post to complete a set spanning all 25 opponents he has played since arriving in England.
It came in a game that swung repeatedly in Sunderland’s favour. Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick for the visitors, twice pulling Sunderland level, before Antoine Semenyo’s brace and Haaland’s late goal secured the points for City. The win kept City with a perfect record through the opening weeks of the season, sending them three points clear at the top going into the international break.
Sunderland had been the only side to keep Haaland off the scoresheet, having faced him twice last season without conceding. Ahead of Sunday’s match, City had specifically identified them as his final unchecked opponent.
Haaland’s record elsewhere is considerably more prolific. He has scored 11 goals in eight league appearances against West Ham, with Crystal Palace and Wolves both conceding ten. Manchester United have shipped nine goals to him in eight meetings, while his tally against Arsenal stands at six from eight appearances.
He has also scored against Sheffield United, Luton Town and Coventry City despite facing each only once in the competition.
The Sunderland goal moved Haaland to five Premier League goals this season, giving him an early lead in the Golden Boot race. He has already won the award in three of his four campaigns at City, including a record 36-goal haul in 2022-23, and now has 117 Premier League goals from 137 appearances.
His form has been consistent across all competitions this season, with seven goals in seven games. The Sunderland strike also moved him into third on City’s all-time scoring list, taking him to 169 goals in 205 appearances. Only Eric Brook, with 177, and club record-holder Sergio Agรผero, on 260, remain ahead of him.
