Inter Miss chance to Close Gap on Napoli After Bologna Draw

0

Inter Milan squandered a chance to take control of the Serie A title race as they were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw by Bologna at the San Siro. Despite leading twice, Inter were unable to secure the victory that would have moved them within touching distance of league leaders Napoli.

Bologna took a surprise lead in the 15th minute through Santiago Castro, who deflected a shot from Nikola Moro into the net. However, Inter responded quickly, equalizing four minutes later through Denzel Dumfries, who converted the rebound after Lukasz Skorupski had saved Federico Dimarco’s initial effort.

Lautaro Martínez then gave Inter the lead just before half-time with a superb finish into the roof of the net. But Bologna refused to be deterred and found an equalizer in the 64th minute when Emil Holm’s low strike deflected off Nicolò Barella and into the net.

Despite their dominance in the first half, Inter struggled to create clear-cut chances after the break and were ultimately forced to settle for a draw.

Inter’s Title Challenge Stalled

The draw leaves Inter in second place in the Serie A standings, three points behind leaders Napoli. While they still have a game in hand, this result will be a disappointment for Simone Inzaghi’s side, who had been in impressive form in recent weeks.

Bologna’s Resilience

Bologna, who are currently eighth in the table, will be pleased with their performance. They showed resilience and determination to twice come from behind and secure a point against one of the title favorites.

Looking Ahead

Inter will be looking to bounce back from this setback when they host Empoli on Sunday, before turning their attention to the Champions League with a trip to Sparta Prague next Wednesday. Bologna will also be in Champions League action next week, welcoming Borussia Dortmund to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara after hosting Monza in Serie A on Saturday.
