ISL Recap: Late Drama secures Kerala Blasters victory in Kolkata

Kerala Blasters continue their winning ways with a thrilling comeback victory over Mohammedan SC in Kolkata.

In a thrilling game at Kolkata’s Kishore Bharathi Krirangan stadium KBFC turned the odds in their favour overcoming a one goal deficit to defeat Mohammedan S.C 2-1. Despite conceding early, Blasters adjusted by remaining relentless applying tactical pressure & securing all three points to go fifth place on the table.

First half saw both sides starting aggressively with Blasters trying to open the scoring in the second minute with Noah Sadaoui narrowly missing the target. Kerala creatively building up plays to reach that rhythm fell short to Mohammedan’s relentless presseure earning then the first corner of the game.

First card of the game came into eleven minutes after collision of Adrian Luna & Mohameddan S.C Zuidika injuring both players & Zuidika being shown the yellow card,briefly halting the time.
After a rigid deadlock for first twenty minutes, the home side found the breakthrough on the 27th minute.

Mohammedan were given a penalty after Blasters debut goalkeeper Som Kumar took down Franca inside the box. Mohameddan’s Kasimov converted the penalty, giving them 1-0 lead at halftime. Kerala nearly responded back with Jimènez rattling the woodwork. Mohameddan held their lead despite Kerala’s growing dominance.

Second Half saw Blasters ramping up their attacking play by being more intense. Coach Mikael Stahre made game changing substitution by bringing in Kwame Peprah for Alexandre Coeff & shifting to defensive play. Noah Sadaoui inch perfect cross found Kwame Peprah finding back of the net six minutes later, equalizing the game 1-1.

Blasters swung the momentum in their favour with Naocha Singh delivered a pin point cross from the left flank, and Jimènez headed home the goal to give Blasters the lead 2-1 at the 74th minute, then sealed a comeback victory.

Dying minutes of the game saw Mohammedan pushing for a late equaliser. The play was halted in the 83rd minute due to crowd trouble. Game came back on later with MSC trying to level the score with Som Kumar providing match saving stops to deny the hosts in the 98th minute.
