Jović Double Fires AC Milan Past Inter into Coppa Italia Final
Luka Jović scored twice as AC Milan produced a dominant performance to defeat city rivals Inter Milan 3-0 in their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg on Wednesday night, sealing a comprehensive 4-1 aggregate victory and a place in the final.
Despite Inter starting the match brightly, with Federico Dimarco hitting the crossbar with a stunning free-kick and Lautaro Martínez missing a clear chance, it was AC Milan who took control.
Nine minutes before halftime, Alex Jiménez delivered an excellent cross and Jović rose to head the Rossoneri into the lead (1-0 on the night, 2-1 aggregate).
The Serbian striker doubled Milan’s advantage just four minutes after the restart, battling in the box following a corner to force the ball home and put Sérgio Conceição’s side firmly in command of the tie (2-0 on the night, 3-1 aggregate).
Tijjani Reijnders completed the scoring in the 85th minute, slotting home coolly from an acute angle after being played through into the penalty area.
The victory continues Inter’s difficult run against their neighbours this season, having now failed to beat Milan in five encounters (three losses, two draws) across all competitions.
While Inter remain locked in a tight Serie A title race with Napoli and are still in the Champions League semi-finals, this defeat ends their hopes of a domestic treble.
For AC Milan, who have endured an “underwhelming campaign” domestically, sitting ninth in Serie A and suffering an early Champions League exit, reaching the Coppa Italia final offers a chance to salvage their season and add to the Italian Super Cup they won in January. “We have a duty to believe we can win it,” scorer Reijnders told DAZN regarding the final.
AC Milan will face the winner of the second semi-final between Bologna and Empoli (Bologna lead 3-0 from the first leg) in the Coppa Italia final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 14th.
