Juve and Milan win to seal Champions League places

Juventus salvaged the season with a resounding victory against Bologna at the expense of Napoli who were held to 1-1 draw against Verona.

The winners of the Italian top flight for the past 9 years were on the verge of a shock slip to the second layer of the European football going to the final match of the season.

But Andrei Pirlo’s side who started the game without star striker Cristiano Ronaldo put up a strong performance against mid-table Bologna as they were 3-0 in a blistering first half.

Federico Chiesa opened the scoring for the Old Lady in the 6th minute to put them back on the top four ahead of Napoli who failed to score against Verona until the hour mark of the match.

Alvaro Morata and Adrien Rabiot added the second and third of the night before the break.

Morata added his second in the second minute after the break before Riccardo Orsolini found a late consolation goal for Bologna in the 85th minute.

In the other crucial match AC Milan came out winners against a strong Atalanta side who had already sealed a spot in the top four.

Franck Kessie scored twice from the spot to ease the pressure for the seven times European champions who qualified for the competition for the first time in seven years.

Napoli stayed in the top four on the final day for a very short period as Amir Rrahmani broke the deadlock against a spirited Verona in the 60th minute of the game before conceding the equalizer just after 10 minutes scored by Davide Faraoni.
