India suffered a 4-0 defeat against five-time world champions Brazil in a historic international friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium, but Khalid Jamil’s side showed plenty of fighting spirit against one of the world’s strongest teams.

India started positively and managed to frustrate Brazil during the opening stages. The hosts defended with discipline and looked willing to compete rather than sit back against their illustrious opponents. Brazil eventually broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Estevao cut inside from the right and fired a powerful left-footed effort past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. Pasted text

Although India were ultimately outclassed by a Brazil side ranked far higher in world football, the performance offered encouragement for Jamil. India had entered the match determined not to be intimidated by Brazil’s reputation, and their energetic start and willingness to challenge the five-time world champions reflected that approach.
