Liverpool Make ‘Positive Progress’ in Mohamed Salah Contract

Liverpool are reportedly making significant progress in negotiations to extend Mohamed Salah contract, raising optimism at Anfield that the star forward will remain at the club beyond this season. Sources indicated on Thursday, April 10th, that while a final agreement is yet to be reached, talks between all parties are ongoing and moving positively.

Salah’s current deal expires this summer, and months of uncertainty had fuelled speculation about his future, with significant interest reported from clubs in Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian international himself had made comments earlier in the season suggesting a departure was likely, stating in September it was his “last year” and later describing a new deal as “far away.”

However, the recent positive developments suggest a potential turnaround. Retaining Salah is seen as crucial for Liverpool. The 32-year-old has been instrumental since his arrival in 2017, becoming a club legend, winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020. He is enjoying arguably his best season, scoring 32 goals across all competitions (including 27 goals and 17 assists in 31 Premier League games) and spearheading Liverpool’s charge towards a potential 20th league title.

Manager Arne Slot, who has faced persistent questions about the futures of his key players, stated in January that Salah was “wise enough to make the right decision.”

The positive news regarding Salah follows captain Virgil van Dijk – whose contract also expires this summer – confirming earlier this week that “there is progress” in his own contract discussions. Uncertainty, however, still surrounds the future of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been linked with a potential free transfer move to Real Madrid when his deal expires.

Liverpool fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation that Salah, on  Mohamed Salah contract a pivotal figure in the club’s recent success, will commit his future to Anfield.
