Luis Suárez is likely to leave Barcelona in the coming weeks as the club look to overhaul their ageing squad. New manager Ronald Koeman is open to selling the striker and wants Lyon’s Memphis Depay to replace him, according to reports.
Suarez has taken to Instagram to address the speculation around his future.
Posting to his story, Suarez uploaded an image bearing text that read: ‘Nunca olvides que eres el arquitecto de tu propio destino’, which translates to: ‘Never forget you are the architect of your own future’.
It seems like Barcelona are more keen to get rid of Suarez than he is keen to leave the club, hence this message of defiance. But it also seems more likely that Suarez leaves than stays this summer, with numerous clubs interested in taking him on for his last few years at the top level.
Suarez’s former club Ajax are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing him, with a fee of around £13.5m mentioned in some reports. Even given his age, if you can knock his wages down a bit, that’s a steal.
Koeman even said on Dutch radio that he would happily sell Suarez to Ajax if it pleased the DJ, who was pleading with the Barça boss to let Suarez return to his old stomping ground.
“If I make you so happy with that, then it’s okay,” Koeman said on Dutch station Radio 538.
