Los Angeles FC striker Olivier Giroud has agreed to terminate his Major League Soccer contract and will return to his native France to join Ligue 1 side Lille this summer, ESPN reported on Friday.

The 38-year-old former World Cup winner is currently in his second season with LAFC and has six months remaining on his contract. His final match for the club is expected to be on Sunday at home against the Vancouver Whitecaps, with a deal to join Lille reportedly set to be signed next week.

Giroud, a key member of France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, has scored three goals and provided one assist in 10 MLS matches this season. In total, he has registered five goals in 37 appearances across all competitions since joining the club in 2024.

The move marks a return to Ligue 1 for Giroud for the first time since he left Montpellier in 2012. His distinguished career in Europe included successful spells in the Premier League with Arsenal (2012-18) and Chelsea (2018-21), followed by a stint in Italy’s Serie A with AC Milan (2021-24).
