Omar Marmoush stars as Manchester City come from behind to beat Atletico Madrid in Seoul

Omar Marmoush scored twice in the space of three second-half minutes as Manchester City fought back from a goal down to defeat Atletico Madrid 3-1 in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The Egyptian forward inspired City’s comeback at the Seoul World Cup Stadium after Jorge Dominguez had given Atletico the lead shortly before half-time.

City, managed by Enzo Maresca, dominated much of the opening period but failed to make their superiority count. Tijjani Reijnders, Josko Gvardiol and Savinho all passed up promising opportunities before Atletico capitalised on a defensive lapse from a corner, with Dominguez poking home to put the Spanish side ahead.

Manchester City’s pressure finally paid off in the 57th minute when new signing Antoine Semenyo produced a brilliant run before delivering a cross that Marmoush converted from close range to level the scores.

Just two minutes later, the pair combined again. Semenyo once more created the opening, and Marmoush finished clinically to complete the turnaround and give City the lead.

Atletico introduced several fresh faces after the break, including summer signing Lee Kang-in, and began to threaten more regularly as they searched for an equaliser.

However, it was City who struck the decisive blow in stoppage time. Rayan Ait-Nouri raced through on goal before calmly finishing past substitute goalkeeper Carlos Esquivel to wrap up a convincing 3-1 victory.

The result gives Maresca’s side momentum heading into next weekend’s Community Shield clash against Arsenal at Wembley, while Atletico Madrid will turn their attention to the start of their La Liga campaign, which begins with a home fixture against Malaga on August 19.
