Osimhen Sparks Napoli Fury by Rejecting January Transfer

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has angered the club by refusing a January transfer despite interest from Manchester United, according to La Repubblica.

Osimhen, who signed a new contract in December 2023 with a €120m release clause, was expected to leave six months later. However, no club met the clause, and attempts to secure cheaper deals with Chelsea and Saudi Pro League sides failed. In September 2024, Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan, with Napoli hoping his performances would attract a €81m bid in January.

When Manchester United showed interest, the Nigerian international reportedly informed Napoli director Giovanni Manna of his desire to remain at Galatasaray until the season’s end. This decision infuriated Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who viewed it as another instance of Osimhen complicating the club’s plans.

If Napoli cannot sell Osimhen by season’s end, his release clause will drop further to €75m, intensifying the club’s frustration. The situation raises questions about Osimhen’s future and Napoli’s ability to recoup their investment.
