Gonçalo Ramos scored a hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain emphatically ended fourth-tier Stade Briochin’s fairytale cup run with a crushing 7-0 victory in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. The win keeps PSG on course for a record-extending 16th French Cup title.

Stade Briochin, having previously eliminated Ligue 1 sides Nice and Le Havre, were outclassed by a ruthless PSG side. Joao Neves opened the scoring in the 16th minute, pouncing on a rebound after a shot struck the crossbar. Ramos doubled the lead in the 36th minute, finishing from close range after a cross from Senny Mayulu.

Ramos converted a penalty shortly after halftime to make it 3-0, before setting up Desire Doue for PSG’s fourth. Doue then returned the favor, assisting Ramos for his hat-trick, the Portuguese striker’s first for the club. Mayulu added a sixth, also assisted by Doue, as PSG continued to dominate.

Substitute Ousmane Dembele completed the scoring five minutes from time, notching his first goal in the competition and his 25th in all competitions this season.

“It’s a perfect evening because we’ve achieved our goal of qualifying for the semi-finals and giving other players a chance to show their stuff,” PSG coach Luis Enrique said. “I’d like to congratulate Stade Briochin on their wonderful run and their performance this evening.”

Enrique also highlighted his team’s prolific recent scoring form: “We’ve scored 17 goals in our last three games, so that’s not bad at all. We’re going to keep improving and getting stronger so that we can go all the way… We have room for improvement in every match. We have some extremely young players and that’s starting to pay off. I’m pleased with the way we’re playing.”

PSG, unbeaten since November, face Lille in Ligue 1 next, followed by the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Liverpool.

In the other quarter-final results, second-tier Dunkerque, who eliminated Lille on penalties in the previous round, continued their giant-killing run with a 3-2 victory over Brest. Reims defeated fellow Ligue 1 side Angers 5-3 on penalties on Tuesday, and fourth-tier Cannes overcame Ligue 2 side Guingamp 3-1. The results highlight the unpredictable nature of the French Cup.
