Al-Hilal Leap to Top as Al-Ittihad Stumble in Saudi Pro League
Al-Hilal stormed back to the top of the Saudi Pro League with a resounding 5-0 victory over Al-Orubah, capitalizing on a surprising 1-1 draw between Al-Ittihad and Al-Feiha. The champions now lead the standings on goal difference after 14 games, overtaking their Jeddah rivals in a dramatic return to league action after a month-long break.
Al-Hilal’s dominance was evident from the outset, with Ruben Neves, returning from injury, converting a penalty in the 16th minute to give them the lead. Despite relentless pressure, they had to wait until the second half to extend their advantage. Ali Al-Bulaihi headed home a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic cross to make it 2-0, before Renan Lodi added a third midway through the half.3 Marcos Leonardo then put the finishing touches on a dominant display with two late goals.
Al-Ittihad’s Missed Opportunities
Al-Ittihad endured a frustrating afternoon, missing two penalties in the second half through Karim Benzema and Houssem Aouar. They were made to pay for their profligacy in injury time when Fashion Sakala gave Al-Feiha a shock lead. Fawaz Al-Sqoor salvaged a point for Al-Ittihad with a late equalizer, but the dropped points could prove costly in the title race.
