Antony nets again to continue hot Real Betis form
On-loan Manchester United winger Antony continued his impressive form for Real Betis, scoring a stunning volley and providing an assist in their 3-0 win over Real Sociedad. The Brazilian winger has been a revelation since joining Betis in January, earning the Player of the Match award in all three of his La Liga appearances.
Antony opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a spectacular volley, connecting perfectly with a cross from Youssouf Sabaly. He then turned provider for Marc Roca, who sealed the victory with a close-range finish.
Antony’s arrival has revitalized Betis’ attack, with the Brazilian forming a potent partnership with fellow January signing Cucho Hernández. Manager Manuel Pellegrini has been full of praise for Antony’s impact.
“I’m delighted [with the forwards],” Pellegrini said. “Antony has started so well. And on top of that he’s scoring goals — it wasn’t easy the goal he scored today!”
Antony’s impressive performances have led to speculation about his future at Betis. The club’s CEO, Ramón Alarcón, has expressed their desire to keep the winger at the club beyond his loan spell.
“Why not?” Alarcón said when asked about the possibility of extending Antony’s stay.
Betis will be hoping to continue their good form in their upcoming matches. They face Gent in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, followed by a La Liga clash against Getafe on Sunday. They then host league leaders Real Madrid on March 2nd.
