Arsenal Prepare to announce Fabio Vieira’s surprise transfer
The 22-year-old will be Arsenal's third signing this summer
Arsenal prepare to announce Fabio Vieira deal with FC Porto on a surprise transfer.
FC Porto have accepted Arsenal’s bid of €35 M for the Portuguese midfielder, with an empty release clause. The contract had been agreed for a five-year deal, with a €5M add-on, prepared to announce after the completion of medical tests with the club on Friday.
Vieira emerged through the ranks of Porto’s academy and made his debut for the senior team two years ago. He contributed 6 goals and 14 assists from his 27 appearances in FC Porto’s title-winning 2021/22 Primeira Liga season. He was voted as player of the tournament at last year’s European Under-21 Championship but still waits for his first senior cap for the Selecao.
The 22-year-old will be Arsenal’s third signing of the summer following Matt Turner from the MLS side New England Revolution and Marquinhos from Sao Paulo.
The Gunners will be having another attacking midfielder after Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe, who could predominantly line up in number 10, number 8 positions and also on the left-wing.
Arsenal are looking to improve their attacking department, raising quality and depth, after giving up the race for a Champions League berth due to their lack of efficiency. Mikel Arteta is in increased confidence that Arsenal are close to agreeing on another deal with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, who wants to join Arsenal. They are also being linked with Youri Tielemens from Leicester City.
Arsenal fans are expecting pure class from the youngster as they contemplate the repercussions of Santi Cazorla, the former Arsenal legend.
