A stunning volley from Rahul Bheke secured a 1-0 victory for Bengaluru FC against Chennaiyin FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Tuesday, confirming Bengaluru’s place in the Indian Super League playoffs and ending Chennaiyin’s post-season aspirations. The win completes a league double for Gerard Zaragoza’s Bengaluru side over Chennaiyin this season.

Despite a quick turnaround following their victory against NorthEast United in Shillong last week, Bengaluru FC displayed no signs of fatigue. They consistently pressured Chennaiyin’s defense and defended resolutely when required, ensuring that Owen Coyle’s team have only pride and final league position to play for in their remaining two matches.

The decisive moment arrived courtesy of a well-executed set-piece. Alberto Noguera delivered a floated cross to the far post, where an unmarked Bheke connected with a superb half-volley that flew into the top corner, leaving Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz helpless.

Chennaiyin FC had two significant scoring opportunities, one in each half. Wilmar Jordan missed a free header from close range, and in the closing stages, Daniel Chima Chukwu failed to convert after controlling the ball near the six-yard box, shooting wide. These missed chances proved costly for the visitors.

The victory confirms Bengaluru FC’s place in the playoffs, while Chennaiyin FC are mathematically eliminated from contention. Bengaluru’s resilient performance and Bheke’s moment of brilliance were the defining factors in a crucial match for both teams.
