Mika Biereth continued his sensational form for AS Monaco, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Stade de Reims at the Stade Louis II. The January signing has now scored 10 goals in just seven Ligue 1 appearances, including three consecutive home hat-tricks.
Reims, winless in 12 matches and on a four-game losing streak, had recently enjoyed a Coupe de France semi-final berth after penalty shootout victories over Angers SCO and, ironically, Monaco. This cup success seemed to briefly inspire their attack, with Keito Nakamura setting up Junya Ito for an early chance, which was thwarted by a last-ditch Thilo Kehrer challenge.
However, it was Biereth who stole the show. After a glancing effort went narrowly wide, he opened the scoring by volleying home Caio Henrique’s cross from the right. The Danish striker, who joined from SK Sturm Graz, has quickly become a fan favorite, scoring seven goals in his first three home matches. He could have had a hat trick before half time.
Biereth added his second shortly after the break, tapping in after Breel Embolo’s shot was parried. Reims manager Samba Diawara’s half-time substitution, introducing forward Oumar Diakite, failed to alter the course of the match.
Biereth completed his hat-trick, once again showcasing his predatory instincts, to cement Monaco’s dominance. Monaco manager Adi Hütter will be delighted with Biereth’s impact, suggesting the club may have unearthed a significant talent.
The remainder of the second half saw Monaco comfortably control possession, seeing out the victory against a Reims side clearly lacking in confidence. The win lifts Monaco to fourth in the Ligue 1 table. Reims, meanwhile, remain in 15th place, without a goal in five matches and just three points above AS Saint-Étienne, who have the opportunity to close the gap this weekend. The match highlighted Biereth’s remarkable scoring form and Monaco’s continued resurgence.
