Brentford Appoint Keith Andrews as New Head Coach

Brentford have appointed their set-piece coach and former Republic of Ireland international Keith Andrews as their new manager, the Premier League club announced on Friday.

Andrews succeeds Thomas Frank, who departed earlier this month to take over at Tottenham Hotspur. Continuing the club’s philosophy of promoting from within, Andrews steps into his first senior managerial role after serving as Brentford’s set-piece specialist for one season. He has reportedly signed a three-year contract.

“Keith is a very good fit,” said Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles. “He gets on with everyone, he’s very open and he’s a learner. He understands the players in the building and the way we’ve played and trained under Thomas Frank. Keith will bring his own evolution but isn’t starting from scratch, so hopefully we can make some quick progress.”

Andrews, 44, who earned 35 caps for the Republic of Ireland, began his coaching career as an assistant manager at MK Dons after retiring as a player in 2015. He later served as assistant coach to Stephen Kenny with both the Ireland Under-21 and senior national teams, before a spell with Sheffield United under Chris Wilder last season.

He joined Brentford at the start of the 2024-25 campaign. While several members of Frank’s backroom staff followed him to Tottenham, Andrews remained with the West London club.

“I’m very appreciative of the owner, the board and the staff that have supported this decision,” Andrews said. “It’s an opportunity I feel I’m very capable of doing and ready to do. I’m humbled to be the new head coach of an amazing football club that’s touched me in a lot of ways.”

Andrews faces the significant task of replacing the highly successful Frank, who guided Brentford from the Championship to the Premier League and established them as a competitive top-flight side.
