Chelsea Sign Pedro Neto, Surpass £200 Million in Summer Spending
Chelsea have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Portuguese winger Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 24-year-old has penned a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, marking the club’s ninth acquisition of the summer transfer window.
Neto was unveiled to the Chelsea faithful at halftime during their 1-1 preseason draw against Inter Milan, further fueling excitement for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity,” Neto expressed in a statement. “Joining Chelsea is a dream come true, and I’m eager to contribute on the pitch.”
Neto’s arrival at Chelsea marks a significant moment for both clubs. For Wolves, it represents a club-record sale, surpassing the £47 million they received for Ruben Neves last year.
For Chelsea, Neto becomes the ninth addition to their squad this summer, pushing their transfer spending to around £185 million.
During his time at Wolves, Neto showcased his potential with 14 goals and numerous assists in 135 appearances. His pace, dribbling ability, and eye for goal will provide Chelsea with another attacking dimension as they look to challenge for major honors under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Neto’s signing follows a series of other notable arrivals at Stamford Bridge. The club has already secured the services of midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Omari Kellyman, goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Tosin Adarabioyo, Aaron Anselmino, and Caleb Wiley, winger Estevao Willian, and striker Marc Guiu.
Chelsea’s ambitious summer spending spree may not be over yet, with reports suggesting they are keen on adding Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion and Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders to their ranks in the coming days.
The acquisition of Neto pushes Chelsea’s summer spending beyond £200 million. The club has been actively reshaping their squad under new manager Enzo Maresca, with notable additions including Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The Blues are set to kick off their 2024-25 Premier League season against Manchester City on Sunday. With Neto’s arrival adding further depth to their attacking line, Chelsea will be looking to make a strong start under their new manager.
