Chelsea’s Mudryk free to return after doping case resolved

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is eligible to return to competitive football with immediate effect after reaching an agreement with the Football Association to resolve his anti-doping case.

The Ukraine international has not played a competitive match since November 2024 after being provisionally suspended following an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium. He was later handed a four-year suspension by the FA before appealing the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The case has now been settled, with the FA confirming that disciplinary proceedings have concluded after Mudryk admitted breaching anti-doping regulations and accepted a suspension equivalent to the time he had already served. As a result, the 25-year-old is now free to resume playing immediately.

Mudryk said he was relieved to put the ordeal behind him after what he described as the toughest spell of his career.

“I am grateful to be able to return after the most difficult period of my career,” he said.
“As I have always maintained from the outset of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance.”

Chelsea also welcomed the resolution, confirming the winger will rejoin the club during its pre-season tour as he begins working his way back into the first-team squad.

“We are looking forward to helping Mykhailo return to full fitness, back into the squad and back onto the pitch,” the club said in a statement.

Mudryk also expressed his appreciation to Chelsea for their support throughout the process and said he was excited to begin the “next chapter” of his career.

The winger’s return gives Chelsea another attacking option ahead of the new season after almost two years away from competitive action.
