Diogo Jota’s Wife Shares Wedding Photos in ‘Forever’ Tribute
Rute Cardoso, the wife of the late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, has shared an emotional tribute to her husband, marking what would have been their one-month wedding anniversary.
In a poignant post on Instagram on Tuesday, Cardoso shared photos from their wedding, which took place on June 22. The images were accompanied by the caption, “one month of our ‘until death do us part’,” to which she added she was “forever” his.
The tribute comes just under three weeks after Jota, 28, and his younger brother, Andre Silva, were killed in a car crash in the Zamora province of Spain on July 3. The Lamborghini they were travelling in suffered a suspected tyre blowout, left the road, and caught fire.
The football world has been in mourning since the tragedy. Last week, Liverpool Football Club announced the decision to permanently retire Jota’s number 20 shirt in his honour, a move made in consultation with his family.
Tributes have continued to grow, with a mural being created near Anfield featuring Jota’s number and messages from supporters.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and was a key player for the club, scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances. He was instrumental in the team’s successes, helping them win the Premier League title last season, as well as the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Anfield.
