Erling Haaland Sidelined for 5-7 Weeks with Ankle Injury

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is expected to miss between five and seven weeks of action due to an ankle injury sustained during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth, manager Pep Guardiola confirmed. The injury deals a significant blow to City’s hopes of winning the FA Cup, their only remaining chance for silverware this season.

Haaland, 24, scored City’s equalizer in the 2-1 win at the Vitality Stadium before being substituted in the 61st minute. He was later seen leaving the ground on crutches with his left ankle in a protective boot.

“They told me the doctors say between five to seven weeks,” Guardiola stated. “So hopefully the end of the season and by the Club World Cup he will be ready.”

Manchester City confirmed on Monday that Haaland would see a specialist and anticipate he “will be fit to play a further part in the remainder of this season including this summer’s Fifa Club World Cup” in June and July.

The absence compounds a difficult season for City, who sit fifth in the Premier League and have suffered early exits from the Champions League and Carabao Cup. Guardiola has contended with injuries to key players throughout the campaign.

A five-week absence would rule Haaland out of several crucial fixtures, including the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 26th, with a potential return targeted for the Premier League match against Southampton on May 10th. A seven-week layoff would put his participation in the FA Cup final on May 17th (should City qualify) in doubt, potentially delaying his return until the final league game against Fulham on May 25th.
