Euro 2024 Kicks Off in Germany

Euro 2024, the highly anticipated European Football Championship, is set to begin on June 14, 2024, in Munich, Germany. The first match will kickoff at 12:30 am IST. The tournament marks the first time a reunified Germany has hosted the event.  The matches scheduled across ten cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, and Frankfurt.

The opening match will see Germany take on Scotland at the Munich Football Arena, setting the stage for a month of thrilling football action. The tournament will feature 24 teams divided into six groups, with each team guaranteed at least three group stage matches. Notable group matchups include Spain versus Croatia and Italy against Albania on June 15, as well as England’s clash with Serbia on June 16.

Germany, as the host nation, automatically qualified for the tournament. They are placed in Group A alongside Hungary, Scotland, and Switzerland. Group B features a “group of death” scenario with Spain, Croatia, Italy, and Albania, promising some high-stakes encounters. England finds itself in Group C with Denmark, Slovenia, and Serbia.

Reigning champions Italy aim to defend their title and become the second team in history to win back-to-back European Championships. Other favorites include hosts Germany, World Cup 2022 runners-up France, and perennial contenders Spain and England.

The knockout stages will commence on June 30, with the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, advancing to the Round of 16. The tournament will culminate in the grand final on July 14 at the iconic Olympiastadion in Berlin.
