Europa League Knockout Stage: Who’s Through and What’s Next?
The Europa League group stage has concluded, and the knockout stages are set to begin. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Rangers are among the teams that have secured their places in the last 16, while several others will battle it out in the play-off round for a chance to progress.
Teams Through to the Last 16
The following teams have qualified directly for the Europa League last 16:
- Lazio
- Athletic Bilbao
- Manchester United
- Tottenham Hotspur
- Eintracht Frankfurt
- Lyon
- Olympiakos
- Rangers
These teams finished in the top eight of the league phase, guaranteeing them a place in the knockout stages. Notably, Manchester United are the only team to progress through the group stage unbeaten.
Teams in the Play-off Round
The following teams will compete in the play-off round for a chance to reach the last 16:
- Bodo/Glimt
- Anderlecht
- FCSB
- Ajax
- Real Sociedad
- Galatasaray
- Roma
- Ferencvaros
- Viktoria Plzen
- Porto
- Midtjylland
- Union Saint-Gilloise
- AZ Alkmaar
- PAOK
- Twente
- Fenerbahce
These teams finished between 9th and 24th in the league phase and will now face a two-legged play-off tie to determine who progresses to the knockout stages.
Teams Eliminated
The following teams have been eliminated from the Europa League:
- Braga
- Elfsborg
- Hoffenheim
- Besiktas
- Maccabi Tel Aviv
- Slavia Prague
- Malmo
- Rigas FC
- Ludogorets
- Dynamo Kyiv
- Nice
- Qarabag
These teams finished outside the top 24 and will not participate in the knockout stages.
Europa League Play-off Draw
The draw for the Europa League play-off round will take place on Friday, 31 January at 12:00 GMT. Teams already know their potential opponents based on their final positions in the league phase. The first legs of the play-off ties will be played on 13 February, with the second legs taking place on 20 February.
