Fenerbahçe thrash Trabzonspor to boost title hopes
Fenerbahçe produced a stunning second-half performance to defeat Trabzonspor 4-1 in the Turkish Süper Lig, putting recent controversies behind them and boosting their title challenge against league leaders Galatasaray.
After falling behind to Denis Drăguș’s strike in first-half stoppage time (45+4′), Fenerbahçe mounted an impressive comeback after the break. Talisca led the charge with a remarkable hat-trick, scoring from the penalty spot in the 51st minute before adding further goals in the 64th and 77th minutes.
Milan Škriniar also contributed to the scoring, finding the net in the 60th minute as Fenerbahçe transformed what had been a challenging first half into a comfortable victory.
The win comes at a crucial time for José Mourinho’s side, who were recently in the headlines for unwanted reasons following their Turkish Cup quarter-final defeat to rivals Galatasaray. That match ended in controversy with Mourinho involved in a post-match incident where he appeared to grab the nose of Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk.
