Erling Haaland has signed a groundbreaking nine-and-a-half-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034. The deal, which removes previous buyout clauses, is the longest in Premier League history and is reportedly one of the most lucrative contracts in sports history.

The 24-year-old striker, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been a revelation since his arrival, scoring 111 goals in 126 appearances and helping the club win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” Haaland said. “Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”

Haaland’s decision to commit his long-term future to City ends speculation about a potential move to Spain, with Real Madrid and Barcelona having previously expressed interest in the Norwegian striker.

The news comes as another boost for City following manager Pep Guardiola’s recent contract extension, which will keep him at the Etihad until 2027.

Haaland’s Goalscoring Prowess

Haaland’s goalscoring record has been nothing short of phenomenal. He already sits 61st on the all-time Premier League scoring list with 79 goals in 87 matches. At his current rate, he is on track to surpass Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals in the 2029-30 season.

Shearer playfully responded to Haaland’s new deal on social media, congratulating him and jokingly questioning whether it would really take him that long to break the record.

Haaland’s commitment to City is a testament to the club’s ambition and their desire to maintain their dominance in English and European football. With Haaland leading the line, City will be confident of achieving further success in the years to come.
