Al Ahly to Face Al Hilal in CAF Champions League Quarter-finals
Defending champions Al Ahly have been drawn against Sudanese side Al Hilal in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League. The draw, which took place in Doha, Qatar, has set up some intriguing ties, with three of the four FIFA Club World Cup 2025 participants involved.
Al Ahly, who have won the Champions League a record 11 times, will be hoping to retain their title. However, they face a tough test against Al Hilal, who are currently based in Mauritania due to the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
The first leg will be played in Egypt, with the second leg taking place in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
Other Quarter-final Ties
The other quarter-final ties are:
- Pyramids FC (Egypt) vs. AS FAR (Morocco)
- Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) vs. Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia)
- MC Alger (Algeria) vs. Orlando Pirates (South Africa)
The tie between Mamelodi Sundowns and Esperance de Tunis is a repeat of last season’s semi-final, which Esperance won 2-0 on aggregate.
Semi-final Draw
The semi-final draw has also been made:
- Winner of Mamelodi Sundowns/Esperance vs. Winner of Al Ahly/Al Hilal
- Winner of MC Alger/Orlando Pirates vs. Winner of Pyramids FC/AS FAR
The first legs of the semi-finals will be played on April 18-19, with the second legs taking place on April 25-26.
Final
The final will be played over two legs, with the first leg on May 24 and the second leg on June 1.
This year’s CAF Champions League promises to be an exciting competition, with several strong teams vying for the title. Al Ahly will be hoping to defend their crown, but they face stiff competition from the likes of Al Hilal, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Esperance de Tunis.
