Ivan Perisic – Can the Croatian Talisman upset high-flying Brazil?
Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Mandzukic. There are lots of names that come to mind when we think of Croatia… But Ivan Perisic is something special. The Croatian winger who plays for Tottenham as a left wing-back has now become the top scorer for Croatia in major tournaments.
Croatia equalized to Japan with Perisic’s goal in the round of 16 of the world cup and Croatia won the match in Penalties. Now they are going to face Brazil in the Quarter Finals. Perisic who is playing so impressively for Croatia has scored one goal and assisted two in this world cup so far.
Perisic was always there for Croatia on big stages, He scored in the World cup final in 2018 against France and is now in another Knockout match. Perisic has now scored 10 goals in major tournaments for Croatia and has written his name in the history books surpassing Davor Suker in most goals scored for Croatia in major tournaments.
Perisic scored his first-ever world cup goal for Croatia in 2014, he scored against Cameroon. Perisic scored two goals in that tournament and then he scored against Mexico, Iceland, England, and France in the 2018 Russia World cup. He scored against England and France in Semi-final and Finals respectively.
There is another story behind Ivan Perisic. In 2017 he took part in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour representing Croatia. The result wasn’t that impressive but participating in completely different sports which he is thriving on one of the biggest stages is just an amazing fact. Perisic was trolled and abused by fans in the 2018 World cup final after the handball incident, comparing it to his volleyball skills.
Perisic has played in many top clubs in Europe starting his career in Sochaux and then winning the top scorer award at Club Brugge. He also played for Bayern, BVB, Wolfsburg, and Inter and now playing for Tottenham and assisting on 7 occasions for them in the 2022 season.
Perisic who is in great form can make a serious impact against Brazil and it won’t be an easy game for both teams.
