Jamal Musiala to miss Bayern Munich and Germany games with hip injury
Bayern Munich’s attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala is set to miss upcoming matches for both his club and the German national team due to a hip injury.
Bayern Munich announced on Friday that Musiala would be “out for the time being” following an examination by the club’s medical department. The 21-year-old is suffering from “hip problems,” though no specific timeline for his recovery was provided.
Musiala had been included in Germany’s squad for their upcoming Nations League games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands, but the national team confirmed he would be unavailable for these fixtures.
The injury comes after Musiala played the entire second half of Bayern’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday. This match marked the first defeat under new coach Vincent Kompany, who had initially limited Musiala’s playing time for load management reasons.
In Musiala’s absence, Bayern will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Sunday, where they currently hold the top position.
To replace Musiala in the national team, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has called up Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling. The 23-year-old, who has represented Germany at youth levels from U19 onwards, could potentially make his senior debut for the national team.
Nagelsmann now faces the challenge of replacing three key players in the upcoming matches. Along with Musiala, regular goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is out with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, while striker Niclas Füllkrug is sidelined with Achilles tendon problems.
To address the striker vacancy left by Füllkrug, Nagelsmann has given a first-time call-up to Tim Kleindienst from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
