Jobe Bellingham Joins Dortmund from Sunderland in Club-Record Deal
Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland, the clubs announced on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The English midfielder follows in the footsteps of his elder brother, Jude, by joining the Bundesliga powerhouse.
The newly-promoted Premier League club confirmed the transfer was for a club-record fee. While financial details were not officially disclosed, British media have reported the initial fee to be €33 million (£28.1 million), with a sell-on clause also included in the agreement. This reported fee would make the 19-year-old one of Dortmund’s most expensive signings, second only to Ousmane Dembele’s transfer in 2016.
The England Under-21 international has signed a five-year contract with Dortmund and is expected to feature for his new club in this month’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
“I’m very happy to be a Borussia Dortmund player now and to fight for titles together with this great club,” Jobe said in a statement. “And I’m very happy that I’ll be wearing the black and yellow jersey at the FIFA Club World Cup.”
Jobe Bellingham departs Sunderland after a successful two-year spell, which culminated in the club securing promotion to the Premier League via a playoff final victory over Sheffield United.
“It’s time for me to say farewell to all the loyal people of Sunderland, who have powered me through two incredible years in red and white,” he said in a message to his former club’s supporters. “Your support, on so many occasions, has completely blown me away, especially in the times of adversity, which we pulled through together.”
His elder brother, Jude Bellingham, spent three successful seasons at Borussia Dortmund before making a high-profile €103 million transfer to Real Madrid, where he won both the LaLiga and Champions League titles in his debut season.
