Juventus Midfielder Paul Pogba Receives Four-Year Ban for Doping Violation
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year ban from all competitive football activities following a doping violation in a significant development that has sent shockwaves through the football community. The French international, who is 30 years old, tested positive for heightened levels of testosterone, leading to a provisional suspension that began in September.
The ban, confirmed by Italyโs national anti-doping tribunal (NADO), is the culmination of a series of events that started with a random doping test conducted after Juventusโ first season match on August 20th. The confirmation of the failed drug test came in October when Nado analyzed a second sample, which led the anti-doping prosecutorโs office to recommend a four-year suspension.
A spokesperson for Juventus acknowledged the receipt of the tribunalโs decision, highlighting the gravity of the situation. The ban, applied retroactively from the failed test date, will effectively sideline Pogba until 2027 when he will be 33 years old.
Throughout the ordeal, Pogba has maintained his innocence, claiming inadvertent consumption of the banned substance. His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has been vocal in defending Pogbaโs commitment to adhering to regulations, asserting that the midfielder never intended to violate any rules.
Testosterone, the substance found in Pogbaโs system, enhances athletic endurance. Nadoโs findings indicate that the presence of prohibited non-endogenous testosterone metabolites in Pogbaโs test results suggests an external source of the substance.

Pogbaโs return to Juventus in July 2022, following his departure from Manchester United, was marred by injuries that kept him from participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. His playing time this season has been limited, with only a few appearances as a substitute and minimal contributions in Serie A, Europa League, and Coppa Italia matches.
The four-year ban represents a significant setback for Pogbaโs career. It is a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining athletic integrity and strict compliance with anti-doping protocols in professional sports.
