RB Leipzig have appointed Ole Werner as their new head coach on a contract that runs until 2027, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old joins from fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, where he had recently declined a contract extension. He succeeds Marco Rose, who parted ways with the club in March.

Werner takes charge of a Leipzig side that will not compete in European competition next season for the first time since 2016, following a disappointing seventh-place finish in the league. Interim coach Zsolt Low had overseen the team for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

“Ole is a young, ambitious and extremely ambitious head coach who will take the next step in his development with us,” Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer said in a statement.

The appointment ends Leipzig’s months-long search for a permanent manager, with the club now turning to Werner to lead a revival.

“RB Leipzig stands for a bold, attacking style of play with a clear identity, as well as professional and ambitious thinking,” Werner said. “The club has big goals and high expectations and this is exactly the kind of environment that convinced me and one to which I want to contribute.”
