Leverkusen Held to Goalless Draw, Lose Ground in Bundesliga Title Race

Bayer Leverkusen missed the opportunity to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after being held to a goalless draw by Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. The result leaves Leverkusen eight points adrift of Bayern, who secured a comfortable victory over Werder Bremen on Friday.

Leverkusen, who were without Florian Wirtz in the starting lineup, struggled to create clear-cut chances and registered just one shot on target throughout the match. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, looked more threatening and came closest to scoring when Kilian Fischer’s powerful effort struck the woodwork.

Despite the introduction of Wirtz in the second half, Leverkusen were unable to find a breakthrough. The draw sees Wolfsburg extend their winless run to three matches, while Leverkusen lose ground in the Bundesliga title race.

Alonso Equals Unbeaten Away Record

Despite the disappointing result, Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso achieved a personal milestone, equaling Udo Lattek’s record of 27 consecutive Bundesliga away games without defeat. This achievement highlights Alonso’s tactical acumen and his ability to guide his team to positive results on the road.

Leverkusen will be disappointed to have dropped points against Wolfsburg, particularly with Bayern Munich extending their lead at the top of the table.5 They will need to rediscover their winning form quickly if they are to maintain their challenge for the Bundesliga title.

Wolfsburg’s draw with Leverkusen extends their winless run to three matches. However, they will be pleased to have kept a clean sheet and frustrated one of the league’s top teams. This was also their first goalless draw at home in 21 league matches.
