Lukaku’s Late Header fires Napoli to Victory Over Atalanta in thriller
Romelu Lukaku’s late header secured a crucial 3-2 victory for Napoli against Atalanta, strengthening their position at the top of the Serie A table. The Belgian striker’s decisive goal came in the 78th minute, ensuring Napoli avenged their earlier 3-0 defeat to Atalanta this season.
Atalanta took the lead through top scorer Mateo Retegui, who continued his impressive form with a clinical finish. However, Napoli responded quickly, equalizing through Matteo Politano before Scott McTominay gave them the lead just before half-time.
Ademola Lookman brought Atalanta level early in the second half with a superb individual effort, but Lukaku’s late header ultimately proved to be the difference.
The victory extends Napoli’s lead at the top of Serie A to six points over Inter Milan, who have two games in hand. Atalanta remain in third place with 43 points.
Lukaku expressed his satisfaction with the win and emphasized the importance of maintaining focus in the upcoming matches.
“It was a great performance against a very, very strong team,” Lukaku said. “The 3-0 they won against us stayed in our heads, but we have made a big step up since then and now we need to keep going.”
Napoli will now turn their attention to their next match against Juventus, which takes place at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona next Saturday.
