Mbappé Discharged from Hospital After Gastroenteritis Scare
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé was discharged from hospital on Thursday after receiving treatment for acute gastroenteritis, his club has confirmed.
The France international missed Real Madrid’s opening FIFA Club World Cup match against Al-Hilal on Wednesday, a 1-1 draw at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
“Our player Kylian Mbappé was discharged from hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid camp,” the club said in a statement on Thursday. “Mbappé will continue with specific medical treatment and will progressively rejoin team activity.”
The 26-year-old star had not trained in recent days after reportedly suffering from a fever during an open training session in Palm Beach Gardens on Tuesday.
Mbappé, who scored 43 goals across all competitions last season, only began training under new manager Xabi Alonso last Friday following his involvement with France in the UEFA Nations League.
In his absence against Al-Hilal, 21-year-old academy forward Gonzalo García started and scored Real Madrid’s only goal. The Saudi Arabian side equalised through a Rúben Neves penalty, and Real Madrid missed a chance to win the match in stoppage time when Federico Valverde’s spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
It remains unclear if Mbappé will be available for Real Madrid’s next tournament fixture as he continues his recovery.
