Mbappé Sues Paris Saint-Germain for ‘Moral Harassment’

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has accused his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, of “moral harassment” in a legal filing, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed on Thursday.

The complaint stems from a dispute over unpaid wages, which Mbappé’s representatives claim amount to €55 million ($61 million), and the manner in which he was treated by the Ligue 1 club before the 2023-24 season.

The prosecutor’s office confirmed the filing denounces the “‘lofting’ he claimed to have been subjected to at Paris Saint-Germain.” “Lofting” is a French term for the practice of isolating a player from the first-team squad for contractual or disciplinary reasons.

The conflict began in June 2023 when Mbappé informed PSG he would not be activating a one-year extension on his contract, effectively putting him in his final year. In response, PSG excluded him from their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea and forced him to train away from the main squad.

During this period, PSG sought to sell the French forward to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2024. Mbappé reportedly rejected a €300 million move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. He was left out of PSG’s opening league game of that season but was later reintegrated into the squad following discussions with the club.

Mbappé’s legal team had indicated in April that they would pursue action against PSG for harassment over his treatment during this tense transfer standoff.

The French superstar joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer after his contract with PSG expired. During his seven years at the Parisian club, he became their all-time leading scorer with 256 goals. His relationship with the club and some fans soured towards the end of his tenure, with some booing him during his final home game at the Parc des Princes. Following his departure, PSG went on to win the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
