Mitrovic misses training over abnormal heart rhythm
Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic missed training on Sunday due to “fatigue and arrhythmias” (irregular heartbeats), the club has confirmed. The 30-year-old Serbian international was reportedly taken to hospital for observation following Al-Hilal’s 2-0 victory over Al-Fayha on March 7th, in which he scored.
Mitrovic had only recently returned to action after recovering from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since January.
Al-Hilal’s statement read: “The medical staff has decided to rest Aleksandar Mitrovic from Sunday’s training, due to feeling fatigue and arrhythmias. He will be observed by specialists, as his case will be monitored constantly.”
The club has not yet confirmed whether Mitrovic will be available for Tuesday’s AFC Champions League Elite last-16 second-leg tie against Pakhtakor in Riyadh.
Mitrovic joined Al-Hilal from Fulham in August 2023 for a fee reported as a “club record transfer fee” for the Premier League side. He had a prolific scoring record at Fulham, with 111 goals in 205 appearances, including a Championship record of 43 goals in 44 games during their 2021-22 promotion-winning season. He scored 38 Premier League goals in 129 games for Fulham and Newcastle. He has continued his scoring form in Saudi Arabia, with 13 goals in 14 Saudi Pro League matches this season.
The news of Mitrovic’s health concern raises questions about his immediate availability for Al-Hilal, both domestically and in the Champions League. The club will be hoping for a swift and positive diagnosis from the specialists monitoring his condition.
