Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer despite having one year remaining on his contract. The Egyptian winger dropped a bombshell announcement on Tuesday evening. He confirmed his legendary nine-year stay at Anfield will conclude when the current season ends. The 33-year-old chose to announce his impending departure now to provide fans with immediate clarity. He described this early transparency as a show of respect for their unwavering support.
Multiple reports indicate that Salah has agreed to walk away from his final contract year. This decision means he will forfeit weekly wages reportedly worth £400,000. Liverpool officials have reached a mutual agreement to terminate his deal at the campaign’s conclusion. This arrangement mirrors the exit strategy used when Jurgen Klopp left the club in 2024. Consequently, Salah will be eligible to join a new club as a free agent during the summer window.
The forward’s future destination remains undecided, according to his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa. “We do not know where Mohamed will play next season,” Abbas posted on social media. He also warned supporters to beware of “click-seeking attention seekers” spreading false rumours. While links to the Saudi Pro League and MLS persist, no formal deal is currently in place. Salah remains the club’s third all-time top scorer with 255 goals in 435 appearances.
