Neymar Reflects on “Gruelling” Sacrifices and World Cup Future
Neymar recently shared the personal sacrifices required to reach the pinnacle of professional football. The 34-year-old Santos forward discussed his journey on his official YouTube channel. He recalled missing school trips and evening cinema outings as a teenager.
Training sessions always took priority over socialising with friends. Consequently, he often spent nights staring at the ceiling while others had fun. However, he understood the underlying purpose behind these difficult choices. The next day, the joy of playing football would usually erase his frustration.
The Brazilian icon also addressed the immense pressure that accompanies worldwide fame. He described life as a professional player in Brazil as “absolutely gruelling.” People often forget that footballers are normal human beings with real emotions.
Neymar acknowledged his gratitude for his career but highlighted the significant mental toll. He admitted to waking up in bad moods and crying during difficult periods. Moreover, his recent battle with injuries has hindered his search for peace. He tore his ACL and meniscus in October 2023. This injury sidelined him for over a year.
Neymar remains sensitive to the persistent criticism directed at his lifestyle and performances. He acknowledged making several mistakes throughout his long career. “I’m 34, I’ve made plenty of mistakes and I’m still going to make a load more,” he stated.
Despite returning to action with Santos, his international future remains uncertain. Brazil’s all-time leading scorer has not featured for the national team since late 2023. He suffered that devastating knee injury during a match against Uruguay.
Currently, head coach Carlo Ancelotti remains unconvinced by Neymar’s recent displays for Santos. Therefore, his inclusion in the 2026 World Cup squad is not guaranteed. Neymar continues to work towards peak fitness to prove his worth before the June tournament.
He remains hopeful of adding to his record tally of 79 international goals. This personal reflection highlights the human side of a global superstar under constant scrutiny. He wants to experience a normal life away from the spotlight.
Nevertheless, he accepts the price of his professional success. The battle for a World Cup spot represents his ultimate career challenge. Fans in Brazil remain divided over his potential return to the Seleção. However, the forward remains determined to overcome these final hurdles.
