Nketiah’s Stoppage- Palace Stuns Liverpool at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace produced one of the shocks of the Premier League weekend as Eddie Nketiah’s stoppage-time strike secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The Eagles took the lead early on when Ismaïla Sarr reacted quickest to a loose ball from a corner and slotted home in the 8th minute, sending the home fans into raptures. Palace pressed aggressively throughout the first half, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Daniel Muñoz both going close, but Dean Henderson’s saves and Liverpool’s defensive efforts kept the scoreline at 1-0 going into the break.

Liverpool looked sharper after the restart and finally found their equaliser in the 86th minute. Federico Chiesa, introduced from the bench, buried a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-1, sparking belief that Jürgen Klopp’s men might turn the game around.

However, Palace had the final word. Deep into added time, Marc Guéhi rose highest to flick on a header into the path of substitute Eddie Nketiah, who calmly finished from the centre of the box in the 96th minute to seal a famous victory.

The result hands Liverpool only their second defeat of the season, leaving them on 15 points after seven games, while Palace remain unbeaten and climb into second place on 15 points, behind the Reds only on goal difference.

Selhurst Park erupted at the final whistle, with Oliver Glasner’s side showing grit, organisation, and late attacking quality to topple one of the league’s early frontrunners. For Liverpool, it was a frustrating evening, defined by wasted chances and a defensive lapse at the death.
