Palestinian Footballer linked to Indian Super League
Whether it’s the nation’s rights or growth, Palestinians strongly believe in freedom. They are nothing less than warriors. Just like that, a warrior footballer dreams of taking the Palestine Football League, more commonly known as the West Bank and Gaza Strip Premier League, to the level of other top football leagues. In a recent interview, Mohammed Rashid said there is no “NO” in the Palestinian dictionary, and that’s what makes them warriors by origin.
Mohammed Bassim Ahmed Rashid grew up playing football in the streets of Palestine till he was sixteen. Though he tried to pursue academics in the USA, he returned to his first love, football. At 22, he joined the local club Hilal Al-Quds. He can play both in attack and defense. After Al-Quds, he played for clubs in different countries. Starting as a striker, he now plays as a defensive midfielder for Persebaya Surabaya in Liga 1, Indonesia’s top domestic league. He represents his national team in the same position.
Now, he may play in the Indian Super League (ISL), as East Bengal FC coach Óscar Bruzón has shown interest. The red-yellow coach is impressed by Rashid’s skills on the field.
East Bengal’s fighter mindset fits Rashid well. With extraordinary dedication, motivation, and an advantageous height, Rashid is trained to play in multiple positions. In the Emirates, he played as a centre-back, and now switches between defensive and central midfield. He can be an impactful addition to the squad.

Amid all the problems his country is facing, Rashid remains positive about its football heritage and future. As of now, the contract is not in process. Emami East Bengal FC is gearing up for the next season tactically. The club is already involved in a feud with rival Mohun Bagan Super Giants over player signings.
