Brazil international Raphinha has signed a new contract with FC Barcelona that will keep him at the La Liga club until June 2028, capping a stellar season in which he played a pivotal role in their domestic treble success.1 The winger expressed his delight, stating his “dream is to be here until the end of my career.”

The 28-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2027, has been instrumental for Hansi Flick’s side during the 2024-25 campaign, contributing significantly to their La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup victories. Raphinha has recorded 34 goals and 25 assists in 56 appearances across all competitions this season.

“It’s something very special, and feeling part of the Barca family for another year makes me feel very happy,” Raphinha said upon signing the extension. “I’ve told my family before that my dream is to be here until the end of my career and I hope to be able to do so but at my best level.”

Raphinha’s remarkable turnaround in form has been a key storyline for Barcelona. After joining from Leeds United in 2022 and registering a combined 13 league goals in his first two seasons, there was speculation he might be sold amidst the club’s financial challenges. However, the 2024-25 season saw him score 18 La Liga goals and provide crucial contributions in other competitions, including 13 goals and nine assists during Barcelona’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.

His outstanding performances have reportedly attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, and have also led to him being considered a contender for the Ballon d’Or, alongside teammate Lamine Yamal and Paris St-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele.

Adding to his on-field success, Raphinha was also voted one of Barcelona’s five captains for the season. Reflecting on his development, he stated, “I’m now Raphinha, the dad and the captain. I have more responsibility than when I arrived but well, the years go by and you mature and I think I’ve matured a lot since I got here. I want to keep scoring a lot of goals, assists and above all keep winning a lot of titles in this shirt.”

Barcelona are set to conclude their triumphant domestic season with an away fixture at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, May 25.
