Red Devils Rebound with 3-0 Win at Southampton
Manchester United secured a much-needed 3-0 victory against Southampton, ending their recent slump and easing the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.
Matthijs de Ligt’s first goal for the club, along with strikes from Marcus Rashford and substitute Alejandro Garnacho, sealed a comfortable win for the visitors.
Turning Point: Onana’s Penalty Save
Southampton started the match brightly and were awarded a penalty early on. However, Andre Onana’s excellent save from Cameron Archer’s spot-kick proved pivotal.
United seized the momentum and soon took the lead through De Ligt’s powerful header. Rashford doubled their advantage before half-time, leaving Southampton with a mountain to climb.
Saints’ Profligacy Proves Costly
Despite a promising start and plenty of possession, Southampton failed to convert their chances. Their attacking intent was undone by a lack of clinical finishing in the final third.
The hosts’ misery was compounded by a late red card for Jack Stephens, before Garnacho added gloss to the scoreline for United in stoppage time.
The win lifts United up the table, while Southampton remain rooted to the bottom, still searching for their first points of the season.
